Data protection

Data protection information

As a public body, the Ministry is subject to the provisions of the data protection legislation of North Rhine Westphalia and takes the protection of your personal data very seriously. We would like to provide you with the following overview of how data protection is specifically designed. We also ensure compliance with the data protection formalities of associated external service providers.

Automatic storage of data

Each time you access content on our website, data is stored temporarily, which could enable you to be identified. The following data is collected each time you access a website on the regional portal:

  • Date and time of access
  • Name of the web service accessed, resources accessed and actions used
  • Query made by the client
  • Volume of data transmitted
  • Notification on whether access was successful
  • IP address of the accessing computer
  • Origin of the accessing computer
  • Length of time spent on the website
  • Client information (browser, operating system, setting resolution)

For the purposes of statistical analysis and usage analysis, only anonymous IP addresses are used at all times. Whereas non-anonymised IP addresses are used to ward off and analyse attacks on the Ministry’s website. For this purpose, log files are accessible to administrators directly and exclusively for up to 48 hours. Thereafter, they are only available indirectly by reconstructing backup tapes and will ultimately be deleted after four weeks. If you would like information about any of the data we have collected about you, please contact us at poststelle(at)mwike.nrw.de

Data transmission

Telecommunications secrecy also essentially protects your mail content and form input against unauthorised perusal and processing. We can guarantee compliance with this code of secrecy for the Ministry’s domain. However, please note that data transmitted over the Internet can generally be logged by other Internet operators and users.

Collection, processing and use of personal data

Personal data is collected if you provide it yourself via our contact form. This data is only used to reply to your requests and is then deleted.

If you have given us your e-mail address in subscribing for our newsletter, we store and use your e-mail address to send you our newsletter, which contains information and publicity about us, until such time as you unsubscribe from our newsletter.

You can unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time. Each of our newsletter e-mails contains a link to unsubscribe. You can also withdraw your consent at any time for us to use your e-mail address in future. If you wish to do this, please use the contact details given on the site information page.

Rights to information, withdrawal of consent to data use

You have the right at any time to free information about your stored personal data, its origin and recipients and the purpose of data processing, as well as the right to amend, block or delete this data. For this and any other questions on the subject of personal data, you can contact us at any time using the address given on the site information page.

Use of particular cookies

When accessing certain websites, something called a session cookie is set on your computer. This is a small text file that is automatically deleted from your computer after you have ended your browser session. The sole purpose of this file is to enable you to use certain applications.

In most web browsers, you can adjust your settings so that your browser does not accept any new cookies; you can also delete stored cookies. You can usually find out how this works for your particular browser by clicking on your browser’s Help function.

Social media plug-ins

We use various social media plug-ins on our website which enable you to share content from a website with other Internet users via these social media platforms or which enable you to link with our presence on these platforms. The following information about the type and amount of data collected depends on the communications and information of the individual providers.

Details of the data protection information for the social media plug-ins used on the Ministry’s website are as follows:

Facebook plug-ins (Like button)

Our website includes plug-ins relating to the Facebook social network provided by Facebook Inc., 1 Hacker Way, Menlo Park, California 94025, USA. You will recognise Facebook plug-ins from the Facebook logo or the “Like” button on our page. An overview of Facebook plug-ins is available here: http://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/

When you visit our website, the plug-in will establish a direct connection between your browser and the Facebook server. This is how Facebook obtains the information that you have visited our website with your IP address. If you click on a “Like” button on Facebook while you are logged into your Facebook account, you can link the content of our website to your Facebook profile. This enables Facebook to assign the visit to our website to your user account. Please note that, as the website provider, we receive no information about the content of data transmitted, or how it is used by Facebook. Further information about this is available in Facebook's data privacy statement at http://de-de.facebook.com/policy.php.
If you do not want Facebook to assign your visits to our website to your Facebook user account, please log out of your Facebook user account.

YouTube

We use YouTube to include videos on our website. Further information about YouTube's official data protection policy is available at: https://www.google.de/intl/de/policies/privacy/

Data protection notice for the web analysis service, Google Analytics

This website uses Google Analytics, a web analysis service run by Google Inc. (“Google”).

Google Analytics uses what are known as “cookies”, or text files, that are stored on your computer and used to analyse your website usage. The information generated by the cookie about your use of this website (including your anonymised IP address) is transmitted to a Google server, where it is stored.

Google will use this information to analyse your website use, compile reports about website activities for the website operator and to provide other services associated with use of the website and Internet use. Google may also transmit this information to third parties if legally required or if third parties are processing this data on behalf of Google.

The use of the website is only recorded by Google Analytics if users give their informed consent in advance. This is done through the selection that users make in the cookie notice dialog at the beginning of their visit. If the users want to change the selection or the approval or rejection later, they can do so by clicking on the link below. The cookie notice dialog then opens again and the settings can be changed accordingly.

In order to be able to offer users the option of consent or rejection, a so-called consent management system is used on this website. This ensures the technical implementation of the possibility of being able to give consent or objection to Google Analytics.

Data protection notice for Google Tag Manager

This website also uses Google Tag Manager. This service enables website tags to be managed via an interface. Tags are small elements of code that are used to measure such as traffic and visitor behaviour. Google Tag Manager only implements tags. Therefore, no cookies are set and thus no personal data is collected. Google Tag Manager triggers other tags that, in certain circumstances, collect data. Google Tag Manager does not access this data. If this has been disabled at domain or cookie level, it remains effective for all tracking tags implemented with Google Tag Manager.

Information about Google Tag Manager can be found at: https://marketingplatform.google.com/about/analytics/tag-manager/use-policy/
